It is the first time for some people on board of RV SONNE. So, it was a great moment as we arrived at the quay and saw the research vessel in its full glory. First, we had the opportunity to explore the labs and our cabins. Then we attended a short meeting during which all scientists introduced themselves. In addition, information was given about the plans for the upcoming days. After the meeting we started to unload the containers and build up the labs.
RV SONNE started the journey at 02:00 UTC. We observed the cast off on the observation deck and had a last view of the mainland. The ship then crossed the South China Sea.
Next, we crossed the Sunda-Street with the Krakatau, and arrived in the Indian Ocean. All labs are ready now and we started to prepare for the upcoming station work. In the next days we will do some equipment tests for which we currently are preparing ourselves. In the evening we listen to some talks given by the different working groups informing us about their research in general and the kind of work they want to do during the cruise.
We are looking forward to our station work and successful equipment Tests!
